Tens of thousands protest in anti-government strike in Poland

Thousands of workers staged a strike in southern Poland’s industrial Silesia region on March 26 2013 in a protest against the government’s social and economic policies, calling for higher wages, more job security and fairer work contracts for employees.

Unionists said that around 85,000 people took part in the strike Tuesday morning, with railway workers, miners, bus and tram drivers, teachers and health service staff joining in the protests led by the Solidarity trade union.
