Bulgarian government to provide humanitarian aid to Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen

Bulgaria will provide humanitarian aid to Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Yemen to the amount of 782 000 leva (about 399 830 euro), the government information service said after a February 28 2018 Cabinet meeting.

The funding will come from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs budget dedicated to development and humanitarian aid.

The largest share will be directed to Syria, where 293 000 leva will be allocated. Financial assistance for Afghanistan and Iraq will amount to 195 000 leva, and to Yemen, 97 000 leva.

The government statement said that funds will be provided through appropriate voluntary contributions to the budgets of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Organization for Migration, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the UN Children’s Fund.

The humanitarian assistance provided by Bulgaria is part of the international community’s efforts to restore the region and improve the living conditions of its citizens there, the government statement said.
