Sobotka strikes back: Czech Republic’s prospective prime minister outmaneuvering opponents
Prospective Czech Republic prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka is deftly outmaneuvering his own party rivals at every turn. The chairman of the Social Democrats (ČSSD), the party that won Saturday’s election, was booted from the government negotiating team a day later by rivals in his own party, but has since spent the last few days as a rogue outsider making his own deals with possible coalition partners.
At the same time his rivals within his own party had to admit that they had a secret meeting with President Miloš Zeman soon after the election where presumably they hatched a scheme to get rid of Sobotka.
