Poland risks early elections amid political corruption allegations
Poland may face early parliamentary elections if the situation in the governing Civic Platform (PO) destabilizes to such an extent that the government will be forced to focus on the situation within the party rather than on Poland, governmental spokesperson Pawel Gras told reporters on Wednesday, referring to alleged irregularities during PO’s local elections.
According to Polish media, an internal conflict in PO between the supporters of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his rival Grzegorz Schetyna intensified after the publication of video material suggesting political corruption during the Saturday elections for regional leader in the Dolnoslaskie region, southwestern Poland.
