On stage in Bulgaria: Concerts and performances from Madame Butterly to Iron Maiden – and Hugh Laurie
From April to July 2014, a diverse range of concerts and performances will be on stage in Sofia, offering everything from opera to heavy metal.
Among the first events in April is a performance on April 5 at 7pm at Sofia Opera and Ballet of Giacomo Puccini’s three-act opera Madame Butterfly, with Grigor Palikarov conducting. Full details of Sofia Opera and Ballet’s programme for the coming months can be found, in English, here.
British trip-hop and alternative music performer Tricky and Scotland’s electronic jazz collective Hidden Orchestra will be in concert at the National Palace of Culture, NDK, on April 9 2014 at 7pm.
Tricky’s appearance is part of his world tour to promote his 2013 album False Idols.
Standard price and online tickets, costing 35, 40 and 45 leva, are available at the NDK ticket centre, and at eventim.bg, ticketportal.bg and at Germanos stores, Piccadilly stories, OMV fuel stations, Technomarket and Booktrading bookshops.
Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin will have his first concert in Bulgaria at Hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture, NDK, on April 4 2014 at 8pm.Tickets, priced 25 leva, are available online at eventim.bg.
April 11 at 7pm sees Sofia Opera and Ballet’s “Easter at the Opera” featuring Cavalleria Rusticana.
Ludwig Minkus’ ballet Don Quixote is presented by Sofia Opera and Ballet on April 25 at 7pm, while there also will be performances in the park of the GS Rakovski Military Academy on April 13 and 20.
The opera Carmen, performed by the Varna State Opera and starring Ivan Momirov and Agunda Kulaeva, will be at Hall 1 of NDK on April 26 at 7pm. Tickets, costing 15 to 50 leva, can be purchased online at www.ticketportal.bg, and at the ticket centre in Sofia, and at branches of Office1 Superstore, Booktrading, Greenwich book Centre, and at Art Point in the mall on Stamboliyski Boulevard.
Nabucco, Verdi’s opera, will be performed on stage at Hall 1 of NDK on May 17 at 7pm, a production by the Stara Zagora State Opera.
Aerosmith’s concert in Sofia is scheduled for May 17 with Lokomotiv stadium as the venue.
The gig was announced by organisers Sofia Music Enterprises. Tickets for standing areas on the pitch are available for 70 leva and 120 leva (front of stage), while tickets in the stands range between 90 leva and 150 leva. Tickets are available online at ticketpro.bg.
May 20 sees guitarist Dominic Miller live in concrert at Sofia Live Club at 9pm. Miller is best-known for his work with Sting and has recorded with many artists, among them Phil Collins.
Spanish electronic music and flamenco fusion band Chambao returns yet again to Bulgaria and will play Sofia’s National Palace of Culture (NDK) Hall 1 on June 6 .
Tickets, ranging from 30 leva to 70 leva, can be bought at the NDK ticket booths or online at eventim.bg.
British heavy-metal legends Iron Maiden are set to return to Bulgaria with a gig scheduled for June 16, 2014 , concert organisers Sofia Music Enterprises said.
Tickets for the gig will go on sale on February 14 (members of the Iron Maiden fan club will be able to find them on pre-sale starting February 12 ) online at ticketpro.bg and in partner stores, as well as the National Palace of Culture (NDK) and Arena Armeec ticket booths.
Singer and songwriter Tori Amos will play a gig in Sofia’s NDK Hall 1 on June 20 , event organisers EventEase said .
Tickets for the Sofia gig are sold at the NDK ticket booths and online at Eventim.bg, as well as partner stores.
Bulgaria has been included on the Buena Vista Social Club Adios Tour this summer, with concerts in Sofia’s National Palace of Culture (NDK) Hall 1 on June 30 and Plovdiv’s ancient amphitheatre on July 1.
Tickets can be purchased at the NDK ticket booths and online at eventim.bg. Prices range from 40 leva to 100 leva for the concert in Sofia and 40 leva to 60 leva for the concert in Plovdiv.
On July 11, Hugh Laurie (Prince George, Bertie Wooster and House MD) will be on stage at Hall 1 of NDK in his guise as a musician, with his Copper Bottom Band. Tickets are on sale at NDK, and via ticketportal.bg, with promotional prices of 40 to 90 leva, with a limited number of VIP seats priced from 100 to 120 leva.
