What’s On: Tove Jansson exhibition in Sofia

She may be best known – and loved – as the author of the Moomin books, but Tove Jansson’s impressive artistic career also included books for adults, painting and political cartoons.

Celebrating the centenary of Jansson’s birth, the Sofia City Library will host an exhibition, organised jointly with the Finnish embassy in Sofia, dedicated to the numerous facets of Jansson’s various endeavours.

The exhibition will feature reproductions of Jansson’s paintings – from the surrealist works of the 1930s through modernist ones from the 1950s to her abstract paintings from the 1970s. Naturally, a special place has been set aside for the Moomins.

The library will also host two screenings of a documentary about Klovaharun, the island on which Jansson lived for years, on April 2 and April 9 (both screenings are scheduled to begin at 6pm).

Tove Jansson – Life and Art exhibition opens on April 2 at 7pm in the Sofia Gallery of the Sofia City Library (4 Slaveikov Square) and runs until April 15.
