Film Review: The Expendables 2
So, this is what a film without a screenplay looks like.
The Expendables 2 is messy, simpleminded and only gets turned on by its actors self-deprecatingly playing themselves, their self-consciously intertextual dialogue punctuating minutes of hardcore action scenes that have little fighting but a lot of bullets firing through the air and people getting shot left, right, center, up close and in the distance.
It has to be said that a film that brings together the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Jean-Claude van Damme and Chuck Norris, to name a few, was always going to be interesting, no matter what. And this film certainly makes no attempt at mattering, so it’s good to go.
