Eurobarometer poll: 57% of Bulgarians see country as benefitting from EU membership
About 57 per cent of Bulgarians see the country as benefitting from its membership of the European Union, according to a poll by Eurobarometer, the results of which were released on June 1.
This is one point down from Eurobarometer’s previous poll, while 32 per cent of Bulgarians see the country as not benefitting from EU membership, an increase of three points compared with the previous poll.
Eleven per cent of Bulgarians polled were undecided on the question.
Across the EU, the average for those seeing their respective country as benefitting from EU membership is 74 per cent, with 21 per cent saying that it does not, with five per cent undecided.
Asked about the main benefits of Bulgaria’s EU membership, most named the new work opportunities, followed at some distance by the EU contributing to protecting peace and strengthening security.
Asked if they were optimistic about the future of Bulgaria, 59 per cent said yes, an increase of four per cent compared with the previous poll, and asked whether they were optimistic about the future of the EU, 56 per cent said yes, a gain of three points compared with the previous poll.
The poll was done among 1014 Bulgarians, between April 9 and May 3 2026.
