Increased flights from European cities to Bulgaria’s Black Sea in summer 2027
Increased flights from various European cities to Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast are set for summer 2027, a boost resulting mainly from the choice of Bourgas to host the Eurovision Song Contest.
A significant expansion of air connectivity between Germany and Bulgaria is coming in the summer season of 2027, the Tourism Ministry said on August 28.
New flight programmes will provide additional capacity from key German airports to Varna and Bourgas.
“Flights, flights, flights – this is our goal!” Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov said.
“We want Bulgaria to be more accessible to tourists from Germany and, together with the airlines, to open new direct connections to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast,” Dimitrov said.
Corendon Airlines will operate flights from Cologne/Bonn to Varna and Bourgas, as well as from Nuremberg and Stuttgart to Varna. They are scheduled from May to September 2027.
ICC will also provide significant additional capacity. From May 9 to October 3 2027, the company will connect Hanover, Düsseldorf and Leipzig/Halle with Varna and Bourgas. At least two flights per week are planned from each of the three airports to the two sea airports, and three flights per week are planned on the Hanover-Bourgas and Leipzig/Halle-Bourgas routes.
Thus, the programme will include at least 14 flights per week.
The start of the ICC programme coincides with the holding of Eurovision 2027 in Bourgas. The first flight from Germany to Bourgas is planned for May 9.
The new programmes complement the flights of established carriers such as Eurowings, Discover Airlines, TUIfly, Sundair, Freebird, Wizz Air, etc., expanding and diversifying travel options to Bulgaria, the Tourism Ministry said.
The ministry said that it was continuig its active work with airlines, tour operators and airport operators to attract additional air capacity and open new direct routes in the 2027 season. In close partnership with Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, work is underway to attract new airlines and develop air connectivity at the airports in Varna and Bourgas, the ministry said.
Active discussions are underway to include Bulgaria in the portfolio of Condor airline, which would contribute to the further diversification of the offer from the German market and reaching new groups of tourists, the statement said.
British airline Jet2.com will add more flights to Bourgas in May 2027 due to the city’s hosting of Eurovision 2027. The additional connections will be operated from four airports in the UK, Bourgas Airport said.
More flights are planned from Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and East Midlands Airport. The carrier’s programme for the next summer season includes a total of 11 routes to Bourgas, with tickets already on sale.
In parallel, the possibilities for traveling to the seaside city from other European destinations are also expanding. The seasonal line between Vienna and Bourgas will start earlier than usual – on May 8. The flights will be operated by Austrian Airlines, and the large number of connections through the Austrian capital will make it possible to reach Bourgas from a number of other countries.
Bulgaria Air said in a media statement that between May 2 and 19 2027, up to two daily flights will operate on the Sofia–Bourgas–Sofia route. Additional afternoon services will complement the regular evening flights between the two cities in the days leading up to the competition, providing convenient connections for passengers arriving on international flights at Sofia Airport, Bulgaria Air said.
In the days following the song contest’s final, the schedule will also include morning flights from Bourgas to Sofia, tailored to the expected return passenger flow and offering convenient onward connections to international flights from the capital, the airline said.
The adapted schedule will make travel to Bourgas easier for spectators, guests, media representatives and everyone planning to visit the coastal city during one of the biggest international music events of 2027, Bulgaria Air said.
The additional frequencies to Bourgas in May 2027 has been available for booking since August 25 2026. Tickets can be purchased through Bulgaria Air’s official website – www.air.bg and mobile app, at the airline’s offices in Bulgaria and abroad, as well as through its partner agency network.
