Bulgaria’s Finance Ministry has recorded a consolidated Budget deficit of 1.53 billion euro in the first three months of the year, or 1.2 per cent of projected gross domestic product, the ministry said on May 4.

In the same period of last year, Bulgaria recorded a Budget deficit of 1.93 billion leva, or about 987 million euro. The ministry projected a Budget deficit of 1.75 billion euro at the end of April, up from one billion euro last year.

Consolidated budget revenue in first quarter of the year was 10.04 billion euro, up 16.6 per cent compared to the same period of 2025, with tax revenues recording an increase of 14.8 per cent to eight billion euro, the ministry said.

Spending was 11.57 billion euro, up 20.6 per cent from the same period of last year, with the bulk of the increase going to higher pensions and salaries in the public sector, while capital expenditures also recorded “significant growth,” the ministry said.
