Bulgaria issues weather warnings for several districts over rainfall forecast for January 7
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for the Kurdzhali district for January 7 because of forecast heavy rain.
Several districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather for January 7, also because of forecast heavy rain.
The districts subject to the Code Yellow warning are Varna, Bourgas, Dobrich, Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Haskovo, Gabrovo, Veliko Turnovo, Sliven, Yambol, Shoumen, Razgrad, Silistra and Turgovishte.
The meteorological bureau said that on January 7, minimum temperatures will be mainly between 5° and 10° Celsius, in Sofia, about 5°.
Temperatures will remain lower in the northwestern regions of the country.
January 7 will be mainly cloudy and windy.
In many places in western and central Bulgaria, there will be rainfall, significant in the extreme southern regions of the country.
A moderate to strong wind will blow from the south-southwest and with it the temperatures will remain high.
Maximums will be mainly between 10° and 15°, lower in north-western Bulgaria, where they will be mainly between 2° and 4°.
In the Danube Plain, the wind will orient from the west-northwest and cold air will begin to come in.
Precipitation will continue overnight into Thursday and with the drop in temperatures in north-western Bulgaria, ice formation is possible, the bureau said.
It will be mostly cloudy and windy over the mountains. There will be rain, significant in the southern regions of the Rila-Rhodope region, Belasitsa and Ograzhden.
Above about 1800 metres, it will snow. There will be a strong to gusty wind from the southwest. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 9°, at 2000 metres, about 3°.
Cloudy weather will prevail along the Black Sea coast and in the afternoon there will be rain. A moderate, temporarily strong wind will blow from the south-southwest. Maximum temperatures will be 15° – 17° C, the meteorological bureau said.
