Georgia’s ambassador to Bulgaria resigns
Georgia’s ambassador to Bulgaria, Otar Berdzenishvili, announced on X on November 29 that he had submitted his resignation from the post.
“Throughout my extensive diplomatic service (more than two decades) I’ve been actively engaged with my fellow colleagues in advancing Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic and EU integration process and building solid and trustful strategic partnerships with our allies, especially with the United States,” Berdzenishvili said.
“Our tireless efforts shouldn’t be compromised or undermined by any means,” said Berdzenishvili, whose career at Georgia’s Foreign Ministry began in 2000 and who became ambassador in Sofia in 2023.
Berdzenishvili added the hashtag: No To Violence Against Free Will of Peaceful Protesters, Full Solidarity!!!
The European Parliament adopted on November 27 a resolution condemning the October 26 parliamentary elections in Georgia, an EU candidate country, for being neither free nor fair, representing yet another manifestation of the continued democratic backsliding of the country “for which the ruling Georgian Dream party is fully responsible”.
Deutsche Welle reported on November 28 that the ruling Georgian Dream party said on Thursday that the country would suspend talks on European Union accession until 2028, while also refusing budgetary grants from Brussels, effectively halting its application to join the bloc for the next four years.
Thousands of protesters gathered in the capital, Tblisi, in the evening, DW said.
