Bulgaria issues weather warnings over forecast heavy rain, snow

Bulgaria’s meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for the districts of Blagoevgrad and Smolyan for November 30 because of forecast heavy rain, while several other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning because of forecast heavy rain and snow.

The districts subject to the Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather are Kurdzhali, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Lovech, Kyustendil, Pernik, Sofia city, Sofia district, Vratsa, Montana and Vidin.

The remaining districts are classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place.

Precipitation will be significant in south-western Bulgaria, the bureau said.

In the mountains it will be cloudy with snowfall, in many areas intense. There will be a strong and stormy southeast wind and there will be blizzards and drifts.

Morning temperatures will be between zero and five degrees Celsius, in the eastern regions between five and eight degrees Celsius, in Sofia about zero.

Maximum temperatures will be between two and seven deg C, higher in eastern Bulgaria, between eight and 13 deg C. The maximum temperature in Sofia will be about three deg C.

The Road Infrastructure Agency appealed on November 29 to motorists who have a journey ahead of them in the coming days to travel with cars prepared for winter conditions.
