Bulgarian railways puts former Deutsche Bahn carriages into service on Sofia-Varna line

Bulgarian state railways BDZ is putting some of the recently-delivered former Deutsche Bahn carriages into service on the Sofia-Varna line as of August 19.

Four of the carriages will be in service on the fast train – as BDZ terms it – departing from Sofia central railway station at 10am, and a further four will be included in the Varna-Sofia train departting at 9.25am.

The carriages will be part of daily trains on the Sofia-Plovdiv-Varna and Varna-Plovdiv-Sofia line, BDZ said.

BDZ said that it was continuing the phased commissioning of the newly delivered rolling stock from Deutsche Bahn.

After the finalization of the technical inspection and certification procedures, all the carriages will be included in passenger trains in the country, BDZ said.

BDZ has made much of the introduction of the new carriages, but there have been frequent reports in recent weeks of trains connecting Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia with the seaside cities and other destinations running late.
