Fire at Bulgaria’s Arsenal munitions factory kills two

Two people died and a number were injured in a fire on the morning of April 25 at Bulgaria’s Arsenal military weapons factory in the town of Kazanluk.

The two people, identified in media reports as an engineer and a worker, died after a spark ignited a blaze while repair work was being done on a machine.

Firefighting, police and ambulance teams were at the site, as well as teams from the regional directorate of fire safety and population protection, local media said.

The Interior Ministry said that the fire was quickly extinguished and there was no danger of secondary blasts. An investigation was underway, the ministry said.

In recent years, the Arsenal factory has been producing various items including rifles, mortars, grenade launchers, ammunition and pyrotechnics materials, as well as a device for detecting various kinds of explosives.
