Bank of Greece: deposits have dropped to 140.5B euro
The total deposits in Greek banks dropped to 140.5 billion euro in February, according to figures released Thursday by the Bank of Greece. Depositors withdrew funds totalling 7.6 billion euro in the previous month due to the uncertainty and rumours of a “Grexit” from the euro zone.
Households withdrew 5.35 billion euro worth of funds from the banks, while withdrawals from businesses stood at 2.23 billion euro. According to figures published by the Bank of Greece, withdrawals from households and businesses since early December amounted to a total of 23.83 billion euro.
