Bulgarian capital Sofia ranks in top 5 most affordable cities for hotel and Airbnb

Bulgaria’s capital city Sofia has ranked in the top 10 most affordable cities in the world for hotel and Airbnb accommodation, according to Berlin-based travel search website GoEuro.com.

Sofia ranked number three most affordable overall in the 2014 accommodation price index.

GoEuro.com said that as part of its travel price index series, it had compiled an impartial accommodation price index covering 150 cities and more than 60 000 properties to understand the effect of new trends in accommodation on the hotel industry.

The increasing popularity of Airbnb and continued growth of the hostel industry are now important factors for travellers considering where to spend the night, a media statement said

Airbnb is a website for people to rent out lodging. It has more than 800 000 listings in 33 000 cities and 192 countries. Founded in August 2008 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company is privately owned and operated by Airbnb, Inc.

GoEuro.com said that New York is the most expensive city overall, and Tirana, Albania, the most affordable.

All prices were calculated over the same date range for the same amount of guests, the website said.
