Greece: More funds are needed from the EU to tackle illegal migration
A clear message that Greece “cannot continue to bear the entire burden of managing the phenomenon of illegal migration in Europe on its own” was sent by Greek Maritime Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis during a tour by European Commissioner Cecilia Malmström, responsible for Internal Affairs issues, of the camp of Moria in Lesbos (capital of the Island Mytilene), which is acting as a reception centre for illegal migrants.
During their visit to Mytilene, the Ministers of Maritime, and Citizen Protection, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and Vasilis Kikilias inspected together with Malmström the premises of the first reception centre and chatted with the doctors and staff who work there, as well as with those who voluntarily contribute there on a daily basis.
