Film review: The Company You Keep
It takes dedication and luck to uncover a good story. Had Deep Throat never contacted The Washington Post, who knows how long it would have taken for all the pieces to come to light and the truth to bring down the Nixon administration?
The Watergate saga, so well depicted in All the President’s Men, is a good place to start looking for clues about how to deal with films whose lead characters are investigative journalists. Another film would be David Fincher’s Zodiac, in which the journalist is actually a cartoonist who becomes a part-time detective.
But All the President’s Men is particularly interesting, as one of the two actors portraying the journo duo of Bernstein and Woodward stars in and directs a new film about one event from the 1970s that comes back to haunt its participants. His name is Robert Redford, and the film is The Company You Keep.
