Expansion project at Sofia Airport Terminal 2 starts
A groundbreaking ceremony was scheduled for February 12 2013 for a project costing close to two million leva to expand Sofia Airport’s Terminal 2.
The ceremony was to be attended by Bulgaria’s Transport Minister Ivailo Moskovski.
The project, to be carried out by AT Engineering 2000, the firm chosen after a public procurement process, is a response to the steadily increasing number of passengers using the terminal. The expansion project will divide passenger flow into two groups, those travelling within the Schengen area and those beyond it.
Business lounges in Terminal 2 are to be renovated.
Terminal 2 opened six years ago and has reached its peak capacity much earlier than the originally envisaged 2020.
