Sovereign Order of Malta holds traditional reception

The traditional reception of the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Bulgaria was held on June 27 2012 at the Grand Hotel Sofia.

Ambassador Camillo Zuccoli received more than 400 guests, representatives of the Government, Parliament, the Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christian churches, the Jewish community, as well as Bulgaria’s academic, cultural and artistic circles.

Among the diplomatic representatives of 45 countries who attended were 30 ambassadors and heads of mission. Among those pictured in the accompanying photographs are the ambassadors of Qatar,Ukraine, the United States, Cyprus – with whom the Order of Malta has established relationships diplomatic on June 6  – the European Union and Italy.

At the event, Zuccoli, on behalf of the Order’s Grand Master Fra’ Matthew Festing, bestowed three high honours: on Professor Konstantin Kostov, author of a book on the history of the Order of Malta, to journalist Galia Dicheva and entrepreneur Mario Arrigo.

On June 28 and 29, in the course of the initiatives promoted in Bulgaria by the embassy of the Order, two cars were donated, one to the Day Centre for Single Mothers in Sofia, the other for social work by the Parish of Belene.
