Bulgaria records 6.8% annual inflation in April
Bulgaria’s annual consumer price index (CPI) recorded 6.8 per cent inflation in April, accelerating from 4.1 per cent a month earlier, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on May 15.
The monthly CPI figure recorded 1.8 per cent inflation in April and the year-on-year figure was the highest since August 2023, according to NSI data.
Food prices were 1.6 per cent higher in April compared to March, while non-food prices increased by 3.7 per cent and services prices were unchanged.
Compared to April 2025, food prices were 5.2 per cent higher, while non-food prices rose by 6.3 per cent and services prices were up 8.5 per cent.
The harmonised CPI figure, calculated by NSI for comparison with European Union data, recorded 1.8 per cent monthly inflation, and the annual harmonised CPI inflation more than doubled to six per cent, up from 2.8 per cent a month earlier.
Food and beverage prices were 5.1 per cent higher in April, on an annual basis, while the price of utilities and housing rose by 4.7 per cent and transportation costs were 12.2 per cent higher compared to the same month of last year.
