US intends to sell Bulgaria missiles for F-16s for estimated $957 million
The United States intends selling Bulgaria missiles for the Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets for an estimated $957 million, according to a notice published by the US Federal Register on June 1.
The items include 125 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, five AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM guidance sections; and four AIM-9X Block II missiles.
The list also includes several non-major defence equipment items.
The proposed sale will enhance Bulgaria’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing a credible force that is capable of deterring adversaries and participating in Nato operations, the notification said.
The proposed sale will support its goal of improving national and territorial defence as well as interoperability with US and Nato forces, it said.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a Nato Ally that is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe,” the letter said.
