Sofia Airport: 22% drop in charter flights in February compared with pre-pandemic figure
Only 88 flights operated from Sofia Airport to charter destinations in February 2023, the airport said in a media statement on March 14.
The continued lack of snow in Bulgaria’s winter resorts had reduced the number of passengers travelling on these flights by 17 per cent compared to 2019, to a total of 15 740, the airport said.
There was also a drop of almost 24 per cent in February on domestic flights to Varna and Bourgas.
The total number of passengers served at Sofia Airport in February 2023 was 495 214, still below 2019 levels.
The statistics also show a growth of almost one per cent for flights on international scheduled routes with a total of 463 405 passengers passing through.
Aircraft takeoffs and landings at Sofia Airport in February 2023 reached 4011, down nearly six per cent from pre-pandemic figures.
The most serious drop was in volume of cargo and mail handled in February, where figures show a 24 per cent decrease compared to 2019, adding up to 1451 tons, Sofia Airport said.
