Bulgaria’s Pamporovo extends ski season to April 19

The 2015 ski season in Bulgaria’s mountain winter resort of Pamporovo has been extended until April 19, the Pamporovo company said on March 25.

The company said that conditions for skiing and snowboarding in the resort were “excellent” and that snow was at a depth of 2.2 metres.

All runs were open, with the exception of the route to the Smolyan lakes.

It was expected that Bulgarian and Greek tourists would make up most of the numbers of visitors to the resort in April and around the Easter holidays. Bulgaria celebrates the Orthodox Christian Easter on a four-day weekend from April 10 to 14.

Up to the end of March, the Pamporovo company’s hotels were offering promotional prices at a 25 per cent discount, including accommodation and lift passes.

In Bansko, the Bansko gondola lift and all other lifts were to continue operating until April 12, according to banskoblog.com. At Bulgaria’s other big winter skiing resort, Borovets, the season was expected to continue until April 19.
