18 dead after roof collapse at Latvian supermarket

Emergency officials in Latvia say the roof of a supermarket has collapsed, killing at least 18 people, including three firefighters, and injuring 35 people. The supermarket was located near the capital, Riga.

Officials say the roof appeared to collapse in stages.

Emergency workers say the firefighters were killed when a section of the roof fell on them after their arrival on the scene.

The reason for the collapse was not immediately clear.
