Euro zone annual inflation to be 1.4% in May 2013 – flash estimate

Annual inflation in the 17-member euro zone is expected to be 1.4 per cent in May 2013, up from 1.2 per cent in April, according to a flash estimate on May 31 from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, food, alcohol and tobacco is expected to have the highest annual rate in May (3.3 per cent compared with 2.9 per cent in April), followed by services (1.4 per cent compared with 1.1 per cent in April), non-energy industrial goods (0.9 per cent compared with 0.8 per cent in April) and energy (-0.2 per cent compared with -0.4 per cent in April).
