27M leva financing contract signing for ‘Bulgarian Louvre’

Bulgarian Minister of Culture Vezhdi Rashidov and Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova were scheduled on June 21 2012 to sign a contract for the signing of the planned National Museum Complex inSofia, popularly dubbed the “Bulgarian Louvre”.

Construction of the complex is to cost just more than 27 million leva (about 13.5 million euro). The money is coming from the European Union’s Regional Development Operational Programme.

The complex is to be built on an area between Vassil Levski Boulevard and Moskovska, February 19 and Oborishte streets.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the complex will have a large exhibition space, rooms for visiting exhibitions, a modern storage depository and restoration studios.
