EC pays out first 3.2B euro instalment to Ukraine under 90B euro Ukraine Support Loan

The European Commission (EC) has paid out 3.2 billion euro to Ukraine as the first instalment of the new macro-financial assistance (MFA), EC President Ursula von der Leyen told the Ukraine Recovery Conference on June 25.

The MFA is a segment of the Ukraine Support Loan, under which 90 billion euro is expected to be made available to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027, covering both budget support and defence-related needs.

As a country at war, Ukraine’s capacity to defend its territory depends on the rapid availability of critical products in the required quantities and within very short timeframes, the EC said.

The first instalment of the 6 billion euro defence package to support drone procurement will be disbursed in the coming days.

Von der Leyen said: “The prosperous Ukraine of tomorrow requires massive investment today. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the European Union and its member states have provided more than 200 billion euro in economic, financial and military support.

“And with the Ukraine Support Loan, we will provide a further 90 billion euro over the next two years,” Von der Leyen said.

“Today, we are transferring the first tranche under this loan, 3.2 billion euro in macro-financial assistance. And we will start paying the first money of the 6 billion euro for drone production in the coming days. This is solidarity in action,” she said.
