Bulgaria issues warnings over high temperatures forecast for August 22
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for a number of districts for August 22 because of forecast high temperatures.
The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven and Blagoevgrad.
The remainder of the country is subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, also because of forecast high temperatures.
The meterological bureau said that August 22 will be sunny and hot. In the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop over the mountains in western Bulgaria and there will be short-term rain in isolated places. A weak wind will blow from the east, in the western regions – to moderate from the northwest.
The prevailing maximum temperatures will be between 34° and 39° Celsius, lower along the sea coast, in Sofia about 35°.
Veliko Turnovo, Vidin, Rousse, Plovdiv and Sandanski are set for a maximum high of 39°.
Montana, Pleven and Blagoevgrad are set for a high of 38°, while at the coast, the forecast high for Varna and Bourgas is 29°.
It will be sunny in the mountains. After noon, cumulus clouds will develop over the massifs in Western Bulgaria and there will be short-term rain in isolated places. A light northwest wind will blow. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about 30°, at 2000 metres about 21°.
It will be mostly sunny along the Black Sea coast. In the morning there will be low cloud cover and reduced visibility. There will be a light easterly wind. Maximum temperatures will be 26°-29°. Sea water temperature is 24°-25°, the meteorological bureau said.
