Bulgaria: Weather warnings issued for most of the country for January 11 over forecast snowfall

Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued the Code Orange warning of dangerous weather for a number of districts for January 11 because of forecast heavy snowfall.

The districts subject to the Code Orange warning are Rousse, Razgrad, Silistra, Shoumen and Dobrich.

The lesser Code Yellow warning has been issued for all other districts with the exception of five that are classified Code Green, meaning that no weather warning is in place – Sofia city, Kyustendil, Pernik, Yambol and Stara Zagora.

The cold snap will continue and temperatures will be almost constant throughout the day, the meteorological bureau said. Minimums will be between minus 6° and minus 1° Celsius, and the maximums will be between minus 5° and 0°, higher in the southeastern regions. In Sofia, the temperature will be around minus 4°.

In the mountains it will be cloudy, windy and with snowfall. The amounts will be significant on the northern slopes of the mountains and because of the combination with a strong north-west wind, snowdrifts are possible.

In the evening from the northwest the precipitation will stop. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about minus 5°, at 2000 metres, about minus 10°.

It will be cloudy, windy and with snowfall on the Black Sea coast, with rain on the southern coast. Moderate to strong winds will blow from the north-north-east, later in the day from the north-west. Maximum temperatures will be from minus 2° in the north to 4° in the south.
