Bulgaria records 6.9% annual inflation in May
Bulgaria’s annual consumer price index (CPI) recorded 6.9 per cent inflation in May, up from 6.8 per cent a month earlier, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on June 15.
The monthly CPI figure was flat in May and the year-on-year figure was the highest since August 2023, when year-on-year inflation reached 7.7 per cent, according to NSI data.
Food prices were 0.3 per cent lower in May compared to April, while non-food prices increased by 0.4 per cent and services prices were 0.1 per cent lower.
Compared to May 2025, food prices were 4.4 per cent higher, while non-food prices rose by seven per cent and services prices were up 10.1 per cent.
The harmonised CPI figure, calculated by NSI for comparison with European Union data, recorded 0.3 per cent monthly inflation, and the annual harmonised CPI inflation rose to 6.3 per cent, up from six per cent a month earlier.
Food and beverage prices were four per cent higher in May, on an annual basis, while the price of utilities and housing rose by 5.4 per cent and transportation costs were 14.6 per cent higher compared to the same month of last year.
