Bulgarian Foreign Ministry warns of public transport, rail strike in the Netherlands

Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry has issued a warning about a 24-hour strike planned for September 9 by employees in the public transport and railway sector in the Netherlands, due to which significant disruptions and restrictions on transport services are expected throughout the country.

Dutch Railways trains will not run in the country during the day, with the exception of a limited service on the Airport Sprinter line between Amsterdam Centraal Station, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Hoofddorp.

International rail services will also be affected, with significant restrictions or suspension of international train services within the Netherlands expected.

Serious restrictions are also expected in urban and regional public transport, including in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and other cities in the country. Changes to timetables and cancellation of individual transport services are possible.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it recommends that Bulgarian citizens who are in or planning to travel to the Netherlands on September 9 plan their travel in advance, allow extra time and use alternative transportation if possible. Those travelling by plane are advised to plan an alternative way to travel to and from the respective airport, as access by public transportation may be severely limited.
