Bulgaria records 1.76 billion euro Budget deficit in January-April 2026
Bulgaria’s Finance Ministry has recorded a consolidated Budget deficit of 1.76 billion euro in the first four months of the year, or 1.4 per cent of this year’s estimated gross domestic product.
In the same period of last year, Bulgaria recorded a Budget deficit of 1.91 billion leva, or about 978.7 million euro.
Consolidated budget revenue in first four of the year was 14.07 billion euro, up 12.4 per cent compared to the same period of 2025, with tax revenues recording an increase of 14.5 per cent to 11.47 billion euro, the ministry said.
Spending was 15.83 billion euro, up 17.3 per cent from the same period of last year, with the bulk of the increase going to higher pensions and salaries in the public sector, while capital expenditures also recorded “significant growth” due to the implementation of projects under Bulgaria’s recovery and resilience plan under the NextGenerationEU programme, the ministry said.
