Bulgarian Navy team destroys drone that washed up near Elenite seaside complex

A specialist team from the Bulgarian Navy base in Bourgas examined and destroyed on May 1 the remains of a drone that washed up on the beach north-east of the Elenite seaside resort complex, a Defence Ministry statement said.

The team identified the object as the nose section of a drone, which contained two battery packs about 200 to 300 grams of explosives, the ministry said.

Acting on the orders of the Commander of the Navy, the object was destroyed on site, observing all safety measures, the statement said.

This is the latest incident in recent weeks involving drones or drone parts washing up on the Bulgarian seashore.

A Bulgarian Navy specialist team on April 17 destroyed a drone that washed up on the beach in the village of Krapets in Shabla municipality, the Defence Ministry said at the time.

A specialist team from the Bulgarian Navy’s Bourgas base removed a drone that had washed ashore on Nessebur’s south beach on April 14, the Defence Ministry said.

On April 12, a Bulgarian Navy team destroyed four shells recovered from a vessel, described by the ministry as a “floating drone”, found on the beach of the town of Sinemorets.

In successive incidents on April 2 and 3, Bulgarian Navy specialist teams removed drone parts and a drone from the Black Sea, according to a Defence Ministry statement.
