Bulgarian Navy destroys shells found on ‘floating drone’

A specialist team from the Bulgarian Navy’s Bourgas Naval Base carried out a task of reconnaissance, transportation and destruction of four shells recovered from a vessel, found on April 12, on the beach of the town of Sinemorets, the Defence Ministry said.

Because of suspicion of the presence of residual explosives that could not be recovered, the vessel was detonated with a controlled explosion, the ministry said.

The military personnel acted at the request of the Bourgas district administrative and with the authorisation of Defence Chief Admiral Emil Eftimov.

The specialist team transported the shells to the Bourgas Naval Base, and the vessel was destroyed on site, strictly observing safety measures, the ministry said.
