Bulgaria issues weather warnings for February 18 over strong winds, snowfall
Bulgaria’s national meteorological bureau has issued warnings of dangerous and potentially dangerous weather for February 18 because of forecast strong winds and snowfall.
The Code Orange warning of dangerous weather has been issued for Wednesday because of strong winds forecast for the districts of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Razgrad, Silistra, Dobrich, Varna, Shoumen, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv and Pazardzhik.
All other districts are subject to the lesser Code Yellow warning of potentially dangerous weather, with several in the southern part of Bulgaria subject to the warning because of both snowfall and strong winds.
The meteorological bureau said on February 17 that it will be cloudy overnight, with snowfall in most of the country.
In the Danube Plain, blizzards and snowdrifts are possible in many places.
In eastern Bulgaria, it will rain until the morning, which will also turn into snow.
In places in the north-eastern regions, ice will form.
Minimum temperatures will be between minus 2° and 3° Celsius, with maximums between 2° and 7°. In Sofia, the minimum will be about minus 1°, the maximum, about 3°.
In the mountains it will be cloudy with snowfalls. In places the precipitation will be significant and a new snow cover will form.
A stormy and hurricane northwest wind will blow, and blizzards and snowdrifts in the mountain passes are possible. The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 metres will be about minus 5°, at 2000 metres, about minus 9°.
It will be cloudy along the Black Sea coast, with rain in many places, which will turn into snow in the morning. Icing is possible along the northern coast. A moderate to strong north-west wind will blow, bringing cold air. Maximum temperatures will be 4°-5°.
