Bulgaria utilities regulator cuts gas prices by 3.3% for January 2026
Bulgaria’s utilities regulator said on December 30 that it approved a 3.3 per cent decrease in the regulated gas price in the country for the month of January, setting the new price at 60.92 leva a MWh, or 31.15 euro a MWh, excluding transportation costs, excise and value-added tax.
The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) cut the price for a second consecutive month and the price for January 2026 is also significantly lower than the one in same month of 2025, when the regulator set a price of 81.94 leva a MWh.
The EWRC did not give a reason for the lower price, but it is generally tied to the reference price on the TTF gas hub in the Netherlands, which serves as the main European price benchmark.
The bulk of domestic consumption for December will be covered by gas received under the long-term gas contract with Azerbaijan, liquefied natural gas (LNG) deliveries contracted by state-owned company Bulgargaz, as well as amounts drawn from Bulgaria’s Chiren gas storage facility, the regulator said.
