Bulgaria’s Borovets opens its 2025/26 ski season

Bulgaria’s Borovets is officially opening the winter season on December 27 with a large-scale festive event, marking the start of the anniversary celebrations for 130 years since the establishment of the first mountain resort in Bulgaria and the Balkans, according to the resort’s official website.

Regardless of weather conditions, the celebration will take place as planned, with a program designed to provide an enjoyable, safe and fulfilling experience for all visitors, the resort said.

On the occasion of the official opening, Borovets will welcome its guests with a celebration filled with sports activities and a diverse entertainment program for all ages.

If the ski area is operational, children’s lift passes throughout Saturday will be available at the symbolic price of one lev, while daytime and night ski passes for all other age groups will be offered at a 50 per cent discount.

Ivo Tsvetkov, executive director of Borosport AD said that in spite of the unusually high temperatures in December, Borosport is fully prepared for a strong winter season.

“Borosport has consistently invested in the ski area over the years, including snowmaking systems for technical snow production, fast and modern chairlifts, and supporting infrastructure,” Tsvetkov said.

Over the next 10 years, the development of the ski area will focus on the higher parts of the mountain, including snowmaking in the ski centre above 1800 metres above sea level and the replacement of the gondola lift with a new, more modern and faster one.

“We are working closely with Samokov Municipality and rely on the support of the state. These investments are key to increasing capacity, comfort and safety for our guests, extending the season and strengthening Borovets’ position as a competitive European winter destination,” he said.

Bansko opened its 2025/26 ski season on December 13 and Pamporovo is to open its ski season on December 28.
