Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry issues advisory on Heathrow Airport temporary closure

Heathrow Airport in London will remain closed until midnight on March 21 in connection with a fire that broke out in a nearby electrical substation and an interruption of the power supply to the airport, Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry said in an advisory message.

The above measures have been taken to ensure the safety of passengers and employees, the ministry said.

Airport authorities are working hard to restore the normal operation of the facility, it said.

“Major disruptions to flight schedules are expected in the coming days, with passengers advised not to travel to Heathrow Airport ‘under any circumstances’ until the restriction is lifted.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that Bulgarian citizens temporarily or permanently residing in the United Kingdom carefully plan their travels and inform themselves about the announcements of local authorities and airlines regarding access to Heathrow Airport, as well as the current status of their flights and their possible rerouting to other airports in the country.

Sofia Airport’s website showed the Bulgaria Air flight to Heathrow at 3.30pm as cancelled, and the same airline’s flight from Heathrow that was scheduled to arrive at 10.55pm as also cancelled.
