Strike at 11 German airports on March 10 to cause massive disruptions to flights

Germany’s Verdi trade union, representing public-sector workers, has called for a one-day strike at 11 airports in Germany on March 10, with widespread flight disruptions expected.

The airports in Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Hanover, Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg and Leipzig-Halle will be affected.

Frankfurt Airport said on its Facebook page on March 7 that all services essential for maintaining full flight operations will be suspended during the strike period.

As a result, originating passengers departing from Frankfurt will not be able to take their flight.

“Therefore, we ask all originating passengers to refrain from travelling to the airport,” the airport said.

The strike will also most likely affect connecting flights.

Passengers transferring at FRA are advised to regularly check the status of their flight on their airline’s website, the airport said.

Munich Airport said on its website that on March 10, regular passenger traffic is expected to be significantly affected.

“The airlines are currently working on special flight schedules. Up-to-date flight information will be published over the weekend. Passengers are strongly advised to check with their airline for flight status information,” Munich Airport said.
