Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry warns of impact of national strike in Italy

A national strike in Italy on March 8, organised by several unions, will affect key sectors of transport and other public services, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned.

Air transport will be affected by the strike action, the ministry said.

The strike covers all major national and international airlines, with flights guaranteed only in the time slots from 7am to 10am and from 6pm to 9pm. Mass cancellations and delays are expected on both domestic and international routes, the Foreign Ministry said.

Rail transport will be affected by the strike from 9pm on March 7 to 9pm on March 8. The strike covers Trenitalia, Italo, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord.

A limited number of intercity trains (Intercity and Frecce) are guaranteed, which will run according to a previously published schedule. For regional lines, train traffic is ensured in the time slots from 6am to 9am and from 6pm to 9pm. In Milan, in the event of disruption to Malpensa airport, replacement bus transport is planned.

Motorways will also be affected by the strike from 10pm on March 7 to 10pm on March 8. Delays at toll booths, reduced staff in service areas and difficulties on major motorway sections are possible, the ministry said.

The strike is expected to have a serious impact on travel throughout Italy.

The ministry recommended that Bulgarian citizens plan their travels carefully and monitor current information in a timely manner.
