Bulgaria road agency warns motorists weather will worsen on February 25

Bulgaria’s Road Infrastructure Agency has warned motorists that weather conditions will worsen on February 25 2018, with blizzards and snowfalls possible, and has urged them to drive with caution.

The agency said that forecasts were that temperatures would drop significantly on February 25, with a strong north-east wind, raising the risk of ice on roads.

Motorists should drive appropriately and cautiously, at speeds appropriate to the winter conditions, the agency said.

It said that cars with tyres unsuitable to the conditions could cause traffic obstructions and make it difficult for snow-cleaning machines to do their job.

There were about 3000 machines ready to maintain the roads, and regional road offices and snow-clearing companies were on 24-hour readiness to respond to difficulties.

Motorists could check road conditions through the LIMA app, the road agency’s website www.api.bg and the 24-hour number 0700 130 20.

Weather forecasts said that Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna could expect snow and low temperatures from February 25 to 27, while for Bourgas, the forecast was for mixed periods of snow and rainfall over those three days.
