Bulgarian Red Cross starts fund-raising campaign to assist victims of Hitrino gas explosion

The Bulgarian Red Cross launched on December 11 a fund-raising campaign to assist victims of the gas explosion disaster in the north-eastern village of Hitrino, in which seven people died, 29 were injured and numerous homes were destroyed.

Sending a text to number 1466 costs one lev, VAT excluded. Funds may also be donated via a bank account and e-Pay.

Bulgarian Red Cross chairman Hristo Grigorov said that the funds would be distributed after a broad consultative council, regarding the needs of people.

“People there really need fast substantial assistance,” Grigorov said.

He said that collection of clothing and blankets was not needed, “only funds are needed because this will actually give these people the ability to recover quickly and get back on their feet”.
