Bulgaria reinstates motorway traffic restrictions on lorries

Two weeks after deciding to lift the interdiction banning heavy lorries from travelling on motorways and select first-grade roads at certain times during the weekends, Bulgaria’s road infrastructure agency reinstituted the ban, citing a complaint by the Bulgarian association of victims of traffic accidents.

Bulgaria puts the ban in place every summer and it applies to the time periods with the highest amount of traffic: 5pm to 8pm on Fridays and 2pm to 8pm on Sundays. The ban goes in effect starting July 22 and will remain in place until September 15, the agency said.

The ban applies to all heavy lorries that weigh above 12 tonnes, with the exception of those that transport perishable foodstuffs, refrigerated goods, livestock or dangerous materials.
