Bulgaria’s new 2-leva coins to go into circulation on December 7

Bulgaria’s central bank said on October 22 that it would put the new two-leva coin, announced earlier this year, in circulation on December 7.

The coin will depict Paisii Hilendarski, who is considered a key figure in the Bulgarian Revival period in the 18th-19th centuries for writing the first work of Bulgarian historiography, the Slavonic-Bulgarian History.

The official presentation of the coin will be on November 26, which will also serve as the start of the information campaign, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said. The two-leva bills, which also bear Paisii Hilendarski’s likeness, will remain public tender until withdrawn by the central bank.
