Burnt Greek ferry being towed to Italy
The badly burned wreck of the car ferry that caught fire Sunday off the coast of Greece is being towed to Italy for inspection.
The ship is expected to arrive in the southern Italian port of Brindisi Friday. Authorities plan to search the ferry for bodies and for clues of what might have caused a fire on board.
At least 11 people were killed when the Norman Atlanticferry caught fire while en route from Greece to Italy.
Greece and Italy have issued significantly different figures for the number of missing. Greece says 18, while Italy says as many as 98. It’s not even clear how many people were on board. More than 470 were rescued.
The captain of the ferry, Argilio Giacomazzi, made his first comments to reporters Thursday, saying “we did our best, with the help of God. We did our best.”
