2014 ‘Bulgarian Christmas’ charity campaign in aid of ill children has raised 1.5M leva

The Bulgarian Christmas (Българската Коледа) charity campaign, which raises funds annually to assist seriously ill children, has raised close to 1.5 million leva so far, reports on December 26 said.

The campaign, under the patronage of President Rossen Plevneliev, is running in 2014 for the 12th consecutive year. This year, the focus of the campaign is treatment for children with severe congenital diseases.

Each year, about 3500 children are born with severe congenital diseases. The most common are heart diseases, diseases of the nervous system and respiratory and metabolic disorders.

Funds raised in the 2014 campaign are to be used to replace obsolete equipment with modern high-techn equipment to enable accurate diagnoses. Funds will go towards genetic research, medical treatment and recuperation.
