What’s On: New Symphony Orchestra and the XIII International Composing Competition on October 21

The New Symphony Orchestra will perform at the XIII International Composing Competition on the theme “Rhapsody in 7/8” at the National Palace of Culture, NDK, on October 21 2013 at 7.30pm – with the winner of the competition to be decided by public vote.

The concert is under the patronage of President Rossen Plevneliev and in co-operation with US-based Georgi Lazarov’s St George Foundation.

The orchestra will be conducted by Bobby Yotzov.

Pianist Maria Martinova, who is arriving specially from Brussels, will be the soloist in Rhapsody for Piano and Orchestra (The Nights of Sofia) by Lyubomir Denev.

Kaval player Nedyalko Nedyalov and Stoyan “Stundzhi” Yankulov will perform along with the New Symphony Orchestra the Sweet Savory by Angel Zaberski Jnr.

Samuil Pavlov’s Serendip” opens the bill, followed by Vladimir Dzhambazov’s Steps (Bulgarian Dance Rhapsody).

The total prize money is $10 000. First prize is $5000, second prize $3000 and third prize $1000 with consolation prizes of $500. Winners will be decided by the members of the orchestra and an audience vote. British expatriate Sue Dixon will oversee the ballot-counting.
