What’s on: Plovdiv Jazz Nights, October 3 to 5

British drummer Carl Palmer’s band is among the stars appearing at the 2013 Plovdiv Jazz Nights at the Boris Christoff House of Culture in Bulgaria’s second city, from October 3 to 5, all concerts starting at 7pm.

The Plovdiv Jazz Nights international festival was founded in 2005 by Milcho Leviev, Ivan Minchev and Johan Devletyan.

The festival is organised by Plovdiv municipality, in support of the city’s bid to be named European Capital of Culture 2019.

The 2013 festival opens on October 3 with D-Tailz (Milen Kukosharov on piano, Veselin “Eko” Veselinov on bass, Miroslav Ivanov on guitar, Dimitar Dyuolev on sax and Mitko Semov on drums) and the Ramón Valle trio (Cuba’s Valle on piano, Omar Rodriguez Calvo on bass and Ernesto Simpson on drums, playing Valle’s compositions).

October 4 sees Opus-4 (Petar Momchev on sax, Lyubo Tsanev on keyboards, Dimitar Karamfilov on double bass and Bobby Petrov on drums) and the Free Flamenco Trio (David Pena Dorantes on piano, Renaud Garcia Fons on bass and Javier Ruibal on drums).

The festival wraps up on October 5 with the Carl Palmer Band – Palmer on drums (natch), Paul Bielatowicz on guitar and Simon Fitzpatrick on bass.

Tickets for the first two nights are 10 leva and for the Carl Palmer Band on October 5, 15 leva. Available via eventim.bg
